On June 3, 2009, an e-mail was sent from the University of Chicago's Office of Legal Counsel. It was written by Russel J Herron of the Office of Legal Counsel to Robert Cargill. This was in response to an e-mail of June 1, 2009 from Robert Cargill to professor Gil Stein, Director of the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago. In that e-mail, Robert Cargill asked Professor Stein to remove Professor Golb's article: 'The so-called "Virtual Reality Tour" at the 2007 San Diego Scrolls Exhibit' from Professor Golb's web page on the University's web site.
Now without getting into the detail of why Cargill wanted to remove this article, Cargill's behaviour as an academic, was disgraceful. It appears that Cargill did not first communicate with Norman Golb about Golb's Article, as an academic should, but went behind his back to Professor Gil Stein. He also sent what appears to be a similar e-mail, dated June 2, 2009 to Professor Theo van den Hout of the Oriental Institute, again ignoring Norman Golb.
The e-mail dated June 3, 2009 from the Office of Legal Counsel, is addressed to Robert Cargill. It opens: Dear Mr Cargill. This leaves me wondering exactly when did Robert Cargill receive his Ph.d, a date that is notably absent from here http://robertcargill.com/about/ In fact it appears that Dr Cargill always has had a Ph.d. laughably even from birth, and from when he accepted the J. P. Sanders Ministerial scholarship to attend Pepperdine University, and when he travelled extensively through Europe, Central and South America, and the Middle East. Its a way of speaking, but it is not the truth. If the Office of Legal Counsel is correct, Robert Cargill did not have a Ph.d as at June 3 2009.
The Scrolls found in Judea are from Jerusalem. They were written by priests who were exiled from the temple by Mattathias and Judas (prophets). They describe the enmity between priests and prophets. The Scrolls were captured by Judas and kept in the archives of successive Jewish kings. The archives were later ransacked (64CE) by the priests who executed king Agrippa (a prophet and friend of Nero). The priests captured Qumran, Machaerus, and Masada. Nero re-took the fortresses in 66CE.

Greg Supina (of Alberta, Canada) posted a good statement about this case on the Chicago Maroon site back in April. I will cut and paste it here:
ReplyDeleteI was looking up the Raphael Golb case and I cannot seem to find out what is or has happened. Does anyone know the latest?
What I have been able to determine, with as much certainty as anyone can have over such matters, is that a terribly unjust slandering of an innocent man has taken place. The almost psychopathic cruelty and vanity of the petty and vindictive opponents of Golb have been disgusting, towards Norman Golb, towards Raphael, and towards the entire Golb family!
A few hours ago, I just finished reading the book "Who Wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls?" by Norman Golb. Although I am not a scholar by any means, I am beginning to see why slick and smooth-talking men -- like those who oppose the rather un-slick Golb -- seem to be drooling so much over the pain they cause him. After all, I have never seen a devil who likes to be exposed. Golb is obviously right about their complete lack of evidence in support of their views.
That old guard -- who seems to enjoy causing loss and suffering for honest young and respectable old souls alike, which has suppressed valuable public information for more than half a century -- if it has any proof of its theories, isn't it about time they presented it? All I hear from them, however, are inventions from their very fertile imaginations.
Who knows who their self-justifying actions will victimize next? Widows? Small children? Will it be you? Will it be me? And do they think they possess complete impunity before both God and men?
I am a Baptist, of the old kind, the kind that supports freedom of conscience -- as Baptists have done since before Leonard Bushard's tract in 1614. As Calvinists, we believe only God can truly change the opinions of the inner heart. All we can do is preach and do what God gives our hands to do each day to keep basic order and life. So, if we differ in opinion, we debate, whenever our opponent might be willing. If he isn't willing, we wait. But we always keep the door open for an exchange of dialogue, just as Golb has done.
Yet the ways Golb's opponents have attempted to suppress any fair exchange of scholarly dialogue in their fear of being exposed is disgraceful. And how can they say they didn't do such things? Their injustice is fully documented, even by themselves, even on their own websites over the last year or so!
I am not, by any means, in full agreement with Golb about everything. Still, I think he is clearly right about all the scrolls coming from Jerusalem in AD 68 to 70, and about Qumran being a military post, never a community of Essenes, Sadducees or people of any other sect.
In the sciences, the use of inductive logic gathers all the facts and eliminates the implausible and untenable first. After that, the possible outputs are weighed and the theory which fits ALL the facts best is chosen -- constantly subjecting that theory to review as new input is received.
One does not simply imagine whatever one wants. There are the boundaries of the facts to deal with, for the sake of the truth and for the sake of the lives who depend on that truth.
God help us all if we continue to support more lies of more scientists, allowing them to hurt others directly or indirectly through their lies. Whether their lies are about climate, history, human reputations or anything else, lies have got to stop.
Raphael Golb was wrong to lie, in my opinion. But the far, far greater lies of the others -- hurtful, incessant, self-serving, un-repented lies -- make R. Golb's lies look fluffy little white clouds for God's good angels to rest upon.
What injustice to the Golb family!!!
Greg
I am final, I am sorry, but you could not give little bit more information.
